Unemployment in India

  • Unemployment means lack of work for 4 years of workable and willing people. Any person will be called unemployed when he is eligible to work and wants to work, but he does not get work.
  • With increasing population in India, the labor force is increasing but other means of production like land, capital, enterprise, technical knowledge etc. are lacking Due to this unemployment is increasing in India. The size of unemployment is increasing rapidly due to higher rate of population growth in agriculture and rural areas. Thus unemployment found in India is basically structural or structural unemployment.
  • Types of Unemployment

    (i) Voluntary Unemployment

  • Voluntary unemployment is a situation when the worker does not knowingly participate in any production work or the person does not wish to get employment or does not want to work at the prevailing wages.
  • (ii) Involuntary Unemployment

  • Involuntary unemployment is the actual unemployment This is unemployment when a person in the economy is expressing a desire to work at the prevailıng wage or below but he is not getting work.
